Tanning Bed Tips
Skin should be exfoliated and cleaned
before tanning. If possible, take a shower or bath before each indoor tanning
session because clean skin tans better and faster. Exfoliate before tanning to
eliminate the dead skin and prepare you skin for the deepest, darkest tan
possible.
Indoor tanning lotions are designed
to give you maximum tanning results and increase the life of your tan. There are
many different lotions to choose from. Beginners should start with a Step One
lotion and gradually move up! Consult a Shirley's employee to help choose the
one that's right for you!
Only tan once every 24 to 48 hours.
This gives your skin time to heal from any minor burning that may occur. Again,
moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!!!
If you plan to tan in the nude, cover
previously unexposed areas for the majority of your tanning session for the
first few visits. Gradually increase exposure to these areas, giving the skin
time to build melanin production.
Protect your eyes. Closing them or
wearing outdoor sunglasses while you tan is not adequate protection against
possible long-term eye injury.
Protect your lips. They do not
produce melanin and will burn easily unless you protect them with lip balms or
sunscreen.
Tanning after exercising is great for
your skin. Your sweat helps produce natural moisturizers for your skin and helps
create a darker, faster tan.
If you feel hot while in the tanning
bed, get OUT! Don't ignore your body's signs that it's being over-exposed
AIRBRUSH TANNING TIPS
The DAY BEFORE your appointment –
shower (bathe), exfoliate, and shave. Towel (pat) dry and MOISTURIZE your skin
with a good moisturizing lotion.
The DAY of your appointment – shower
(bathe) ONLY. A long shower or bath right before you are airbrushed can make the
skin swell and become engorged with water, making application less smooth, so
try to bathe at least an hour before your appointment. Bathe with a shower gel
rather than bar soap. This will help keep a soap film from building up on the
skin. Do NOT put on deodorant, makeup OR lotion!! Whatever you choose to wear to
get tanned in will leave tan lines. Wear something old just in case it was to
stain it. It will take you approximately 30 minutes for your appointment. Wear
loose fitting clothes (such as jogging suit or sundress) and preferably flip
flops following the session. Tight fitting clothes and shoes squeezes the
product out of the cells, which means less effective results or non-tanned
areas. NO shower (bath), sex or sweating for at least 8 hours after your tanning
session. Do not wash your hands for this 8 hours. Immersion in water before this
time can wash off the tan and sweating can cause discoloration of your tan. If
you are wearing shorts, and have leather seats in your car OR at home you need
to sit on a towel the 8 hours you are processing. Leather is a skin and could
stain it.
Bathe in cool to warm water (NOT
HOT), wash your body with your hand and a mild shower gel, (only washing
personal areas with a cloth). By using a cloth on your body, you are exfoliating
the skin and the tan. Pat your body dry with the towel. It is extremely
important to MOISTURIZE in the morning and at night (at least twice a day) to
maintain your tan.
Although swimming or getting in hot
tubs is not recommended for sunless tanning, if you must, apply a
water-resistant sunscreen on your tan BEFORE these activities. Water absorbs
into the skin causing the tan to dilute and wash off. By applying a WATER
RESISTANT sunscreen this acts as a barrier to the water and helps your tan to
stay.
Maintenance session –
Approximately once a week to maintain your TAN depending on how your skin is and
how you take care of your tan.
TIPS: 2-3 days BEFORE your
appointment – after you shower (bathe) apply a lotion with ALPHA & BETA. Alpha &
Beta is an exfoliator and will exfoliate your dry skin. But remember, DO NOT use
this lotion while you are tanning or it will take your tan off. |
